The Question Of Two Sisters
This is probably going to come off as a really stupid question, but what's the whole "Two Sisters" thing about? Since I moved here I've noticed quite a few businesses with "Of Two Sisters" in the name and I was wondering if there's some local story attached to it. This is the first of what will probably be a whole series of dumb out-of-towner questions. :/ Current Mood: curious |

NOLA Zombie Walk 2010 :)
I personally don't have anything to do with this.. I was just on craigslist and came across this. I'm pretty damn excited about it. "Attn: Zombies of All Ages! Join the NOLA Zombie Walk! Zombie Walks are the new underground events in major cities. NOLA needs to get in on this! We are hoping to organize NOLA's first Zombie Walk for the 2010 Mardi Gras and we need as many zombie's as possible to participate. Interested in joining the undead for a spectacular night? Email NOLAzombiewalk@gmail.com and get in on the action!" Here's the link: http://neworleans.craigslist.org/grp/1530333920.htmlI hope this works out. :):):) EDIT: I sent an email and got this auto-response: Welcome Zombies of all ages! The NOLA Zombie Walk is scheduled for Lundi Gras - Monday, Feb. 15th, 2010. Details: 6:30pm: Zombies gather in front of the Imax Theater (on the river side) by the Aquarium of the Americas. 6:45pm: Lurch Begins! Route: From Imax -> St. Peter St. (via Woldenberg Park) -> Royal St. (passing through Jackson Square) -> Canal Street -> Imax. |

Buying tires
Any suggestion on a good shop in which I can get a nice new set of tires - nothing fancy, as long as they're round and get the job done. I'd like to deal with someone friendly and efficient, but I know that's probably a dream. Bonus points if your favorite tire dealer is in Mid-City so I can get in and out of there during my lunch break. EDIT: Turns out Delta World Tire on Broad and Conti was the right place. |

I need some concrete work done
Does anyone have recent experiences they would like to share (good or bad) with concrete contractors?? Or do you know of any trustworthy folks doing that sort of thing?? I just need to replace a 70-ft. length of sidewalk (demolish, take away and rebuild). I have looked to the yellow pages and the BBB website, but I would like to get real life input if you have some you would like to share. Thank you in advance!! Current Mood: curious |

St Expedite statue
I grew up with the statue (behind the cut) of St. Expedite. My brothers rescued it from the church (St. Mary Star of the Sea) basement in Port Townsend, Washington, in the early 1970's, and it was in our attic from then until recently. I'm told it came from France over 100 years ago, and is from an earlier location of St. Mary's. The current church was erected in the 1950's, and this statue was stored, not displayed. I'd love to know more about its origins, since some Internet sites claim New Orleans has the only known statue in the U.S. ( Enjoy. ) |

St. Patrick's Day Coming down for St. Patrick's Day. Will be in town March 14-19. Any fun ideas for celebrating? I've been to NOLA twice before (stayed only in the French Quarter). We will likely be staying in the Quarter again, this trip. Thanks, in advance, for any ideas you have. Current Mood: curious |

GIANT plastic bags/ pallet covers: I need them desperately, please help me, please.
If you recall, I posted last year seeking an exterminator for bedbugs. Now the time has come for me to take matters into my own hands. I am trying to fumigate my belongings in the backyard and need a few REALLY BIG PLASTIC BAGS for my furniture. I was thinking about using some pallet covers like they use to ship things to retail places and grocery stores. Can anyone help me get my hands on 2 or 3 of them? I do not think the people at Rouse's would be pleased to catch me taking them and, well, I wouldn't be pleased either. Please take pity on me and help me. It's New Year's Eve and I can't concentrate on anything else. Please. I will bribe you if need be. Please. Please. Thank you for any assistance or really-big-bag-procuration tips you may have. And a happy new year-----!! Current Mood: desperate |

The National Assembly of Ontonauts : Philosophy club in New Orleans "The unexamined life is not worth living!" - SocratesIn this spirit the National Assembly of Ontonauts is proud to announce its first regional chapter in New Orleans! Tentatively named the Avaris Nome, it will be inducted with a casual meeting over coffee, bagels, tea, and other such beverages and food on Saturday, January 16th, 2010. The scope of discussion won't be limited to ontology, we just liked the name! Subjects of discussion will be general philosophy, epistemology, ontology, logic and logical fallacies, debating, etc. We hope this to be a great venue for anyone interested in the mysteries of the mind, existence, and whom may just wish to have a fun time discussing ideas. Neither NOA nor the Avaris Nome are affiliated with any religion, dogma, or such other than that of exploring mysteries and the mind. We ask the same courtesy of anyone attending. All dogmas and philosophies are worth debating, however please do not seek to 'recruit' at such gatherings. More details will be posted closer to the 16th. Please respond with suggestions for general discussions, interests, etc. Students at Loyola, Tulane, UNO, Delgado, Xavier, etc. please tell fellow students who may be interested, along with any university philosophy clubs. Ages 18 - 93 welcome (older than 93 shall have to be accompanied by a college student ;) ) Hope everyone has a great new year! Twitter/Facebook/etc. coming soon. |

Mid City Bonfire?
Yesterday I heard rumors that the Mid City Bonfire is going to be shut down this year. Is there any validity to this? If the "high and mighty" have finally managed it, I say we start planning now to make the Bonfire for 2011 one that the "high and mighty" will never forget, by getting organized now. |

80's night at One Eyed Jacks
80's night is still on tonight at One Eyed Jacks for those who may need something to do. $1 high life as usual and probably very festive gogo dancers. :) Jacks is also doing 80's night for New Years Eve. It's an 80's prom theme with a photo booth and of course $1 high life and champagne at midnight. |
